This was the start of the Civil War. On the Union, General Robert Anderson was in charge and for the Confederacy, Beuregard was in charge. Union surrendered the Fort to the Confederacy. This was important because there was no casualties during the battle. -
1st Battle of Bull Run
This battle occured in Manassas, Virginia. The Union Leader in this battle was McDowell and for the Confederacy the leader was Beauregard and Stonewall Jackson. The Confederacy won this battle and it was important because this showed that the Confederacy was a strong army. -
Battle of Shiloh
This battle occured in Mississippi. The leader for the Union was Grant and Sherman and for the Confederacy the leader was Beauregard. The Union won this battle. This was important because the Union got some control on the Mississippi River. -
Fall of New Orleans
This battle occured in Lousiana. The leader for the Union was Farragut. The Union won this battle, This battle was important because the South couldn't use the ports for goods. -
Antietam
This battle occured in Maryland. The leader for the Union on this battle was McClellan and for the Confederacy it was Lee. Niether side one. This battle was important because McClellan had Lee's battle plans, caused the Emancipation Proclamation, and was the "Bloodiest Day in American HIstory". -
Battle of Fredericksburg
This battle occured in Virginia and the leader for the Union was Burnside and for the Confederacy the leader was Lee. The Confederacy won this battle because they used trenches to fight off the Yankees. This was important the South won again. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
This battle occured in Virginia and the leader for the Union was Hooker and for the Confederacy the leaders were Lee and Jackson. The Confederacy won this battle. This was important because Stonewall Jackson died. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle occured in Pennsylvania. The leader fo the Union was Meade and for the Confederacy the leaders were Lee and Pickett. The Union won because Lee wanted Pickett's men to charge the Union forces. The Union had more accuracy because they were not charging them. This was important because this batleended the Confederacy's hope of help from Britain and France -
Siege of Vicksburg
This battle occured in Mississippi. The leader for the Union was Grant and for the Confederacy it was everyone. The Union won this battle. This was important because this was a major turning point in the war and the Confederacy was split through the Mississippi River, -
Wilderness Campaign
This battle occured in a big forest inbetween D.C. and Richmond. There were many casualties due to the sparks from the rifles igniting the trees and causing brushfires. The Union won this battle and advanced towards Richmond. This was important because the Union could now start moving towards Richmond. -
Farragut at Mobile Bay
This battle occured on the Mississippi River and David Farragut from the Union was sailing his ship and got attacked from the Confederacy. Farragut was having vertigo so he had his men tie him to the mast. He succeded at getting through the Mississippi River and invading it. -
Sherman's March to the Sea
This battle occured in Atlanta and the Union wanted to take away the South's hope.Sherman and his men destroyed everything. He destroyed anything useful to the South throughout the Carolinas. Took food, tore up railroads, and freed 1000s of slaves. -
Fall of Richmond
Grant was at Petersburg fighting against Lee until Lee retreated. When Jefferson Davis heard that lee retreated, Davis burned all of his documents, set bridges and weapons on fire, and fled the city with his Cabinet. He did this because he didn't want the Union to have all of their weapons and battle plans. THe Union had defeated the Confederacy.
