Fort Sumpter
The Battle ao Fort Sumpter was fought at Charleston Harbor. The battle started by the general of the confederate army , gen. Beauregard demanded surrender on garrison, garrison refused. April 12th is when the confederates opened fire and that lasted all the way till april 14th. This battle was a very important confederate victory. -
1st Bull Run
1st bull run was the first battle of the civil war.The union marched toward Richmond, the confederate capital. The battle lasted a long 5 hours between the union and confederate armys. The south had the victory over the union with 33 thousand men, and the union only had 28 thousand men. -
Battle of Hampton Roads
The battle of Hapton roads can also be called "the battle of ironclads". This battle was fought in Hampton Roads Virgina March 8-9th. The first action of this battle was the confederate ironclads comimg into hampton roads. The ship sunk cumberland on it way, On the 9th the two ships fought to a standstill. -
Battle of Shiloh
The battle of Shiloh was led by Jonston and Grant by the tennesse river om april 6-7th.The battle at shiloh was also called one of the bloodiset battles. Even though it was a victory for the union forces they had nost of their men die, Johnston was forced to give up Kentucy and some of Tennessee this was very bad for the south. -
2nd Bull run
The battle of the 2nd Bull run was fought in Manassas Virgina on August 29-30 1862. John Pope became the new union leader and the cofederates stayed with Lee. Lee took an advantage and seized the union as fast as he could that was a key part in this battle. This lead to a cofederate victory. -
Battle of Antietam
The battle of Anteitam was named one of the bloodiest days in U.S history. about 23,ooo men were dead, hurt, or missingafter 12 hours of the battle. Lee's army had 60,000 or less and McClellan had about 87,000 men ready to fight. 2,010 men were killed at this battle along with others that were lost. -
Battle of Fredricksberg
The battle of Fredricksberg was fought in Virgina. The two armys were led by Lee snd Burnside. General Lee used the stategey of hiding his army behind the town. While Bunside sent a corps to Fredricksberg. This battle was a victory for the south. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was a proclamation that Abraham Lincoln issued. He stated that unless rebllous states returned to the union freedom will be given to slaves.The proclamation did not free all slaves, only the ones not living under union control. The south did not like thia at all. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
The battle of chancelorsville Hooker commanded the union army and Lee commanded the confederate army. The confederates held an attack on the union on may 2 , but the union counteracted and fought back. The confederates were left disorganized. Also at this battle the famous stonewall jackson was badly wounded -
Siege of Vicksburg
The Siege of Vicksburg had to do with the union wanting to cut of all the passegways and routes that the south had. The main river was the mississippi rive, the union had already cut of most of the ports. This was one of the major turning points in the civil war. The union won the battle on May 18th- july 4th 1863. -
Battle of Gettysberg
The battle of gettysberg was fought in gettysberg Pennsylvania, The union and confederate leaders were Meade and Lee. On july 1st the battle started when the confederates went into town and ran into the union calvary. The battle escaladed to July 2nd and the confederates waited to long to attack and the union attacked. -
Siege of Atlanta
The leaders at atlanta were Sherman and Hood. General Sherman lead his army to Atlanta, and the confederates moved the opposite way. The confederates were outnumbered by the union army in this battle. A few days befor the battle the armys had a fight called peachcreek John Bell was the one to stike. This fight lead to the siege of atlanta. -
Surrender at Appomattox courthouse
This day was about the surrender between Lee and Grant, the union and confederate leaders of the civil war. The surrender took place in a town called farmville by the appomattox river. This was the last event in the civil war and it is what makes it so important. This was a victorius day for many people. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the united states of America. Lincoln was shot in Ford's Theatre in Washington DC. The Killer of Abraham Lincoln was John Wilkes. Abraham Licoln was in favor of the norths union army. Most of the south did not approve of lincoln because he liberated the slaves in the south. -
Ratification of the 13th amendment
The ratification of the 13th amendment was a representation of the biggest change that the civil war brought, slavery. The amendment stated that basically no slavery should exist in the United States. The amendment started with Lincoln's proclamation after the battle of Antietam. He said that slave states that were still rebelling would be forever free.
