    Accused of whistling at white woman. 3 days later Key Bryant and others kidnapped, ear detached, ear cut off barbwire wrapped around his neck weighted down by 15 Pounds cotton gin fan, thrown into water.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa is arrased for failing to move seats on the bus. She is fined 10$. Supreme Court ruled we bus had to let blacks ride.
  • Little Rock 9

    Little Rock 9
    9 students wanted to go to the white school. The governor of Arkansas called out the National Gaurd to stop them. President Eisenhower calls out 1,200 military men to escort them from school to home. 1959 all schools were fully integrated.
  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)

    A meeting of Black Church Pastors to coordinate events for black people. MLK was elected the first president. This group used a non-violent strategy. This group also registered blacks to vote opposed Vietnam War and providing better jobs.

    Go to WodWorths and buy items. Then go sit at the lunchcounter. They are refused food and get told to leave, but they refused. Day after day they keep coming back and did the same thing.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    A diverse group of volunteers from 39 states, most were college students. Arrived in Anniston, Alabama blocked by the K.K.K. Tires slashed, fire bombed, buses burned and beatings, town after town.

    Black marchers wanted to march 5 miles to Montgomery to register to vote. Edmond
    Bridge troops brutally beat them.

    Civil Rights leader who was part of the Nation of Islam. He wanted black people to believe in themselves and start their own businesses. He was shot 21 times. Thomas Hagen convicted of killing.
  • Martin Luther King Jr

    Striking sanitation workers protest In Memphis. Went back to motel. Shot lower right side of his face, with a Remington rifle. James Earl Ray is sentenced to 99 years in prison. His death marks ends the civil rights movement.
