  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment
    In 1865 the 13th amendment abolished slavery and its territories
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    In 1868, the 14th amendment gave citizenship to African Americans and for all people born or naturalized by America as citizens.

    15th Amendment
    In 1870, the 15th amendment was made to give suffrage( voting rights) to African Americans
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    Homer Plessy refused to got to the train car for blacks and stayed where he was. He said his constitutional rights were violated.
  • Truman desegregates the military

    Truman desegregates the military
    Truman made an order desegregated the military passing an executive order. He desegregated all of the armed forces.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Was a case against segregated schools. Oliver Brown filed a law suit against the board of education of Topeka after his daughter, Linda Brown, was denied access to an all white school.
  • Rosa Parks/ Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks/ Montgomery Bus Boycott
    Rosa Parks was sitting in the front of the bus, which was only for white people, when she was told to move to the back. She refused to move. She was arrested and fined 10$.

    Nine black students attended an all white school Central High School. The Governor called the Arkansas National Guard to deny them access into the school. The president then ordered federal troops to allow them into the school.

    The March on Washington was a massive march that had 250,000 people. They gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial . Martin Luther King Jr. also gave his "I have a dream" speech.

    The Civil Rights Act ended segregation in public places. This was first proposed by John F. Kennedy.

    The Selma to Montgomery Alabama march was led by Martin Luther King Jr. This was series of civil right protests.

    This was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson to help African Americans get their right to vote. It prevented barriers from them being able to vote.
