1956 State Flag
This flag was introduced in 1956 to the GA Assembly and was said to be very controversial because it resembled the confederate flag. Although, when it was introduced it passed easily in the General Assembly. -

Sibley Commission
The Sibley Commission was organized to see the opinion of the public on the integration of public schools. Most of the public were against integration. The Sibley Commision helped two African-Americans, Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter, to attend the University of Georgia. These two students were the first African-Americans to be admitted into the University of Georgia. -
Albany Movement
The Albany Movement was when hundreds of African Americans rebeled against the integration of their community. The movement led to over five hundred protestors in jail or out on bond. -

Lester Maddox was a politician who was the 75th Governor of GA. He was also known for his role in the civil rights movement. -
African American Mayors in Atlanta
Maynard Jackson was the first African American mayor of Atlanta and after his second term, he handed the keys to the city to Andrew Young, another African American. Both of these mayors played huge roles in the civil rights movement and did many things for Atlanta.
