    With Jackie Robinson as an African american in major league baseball, it encouraged more African Americans to join more Major league sports.
  • Executive Order 9981 signed by President Truman

    Executive Order 9981 signed by President Truman
    segration was elimated in the army
  • Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Ruling

    The Brown v. Board was ruling stating that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional. This ruling allowed many African Americans to start trying to get into schools they once had no chance of getting into.
  • Emmett Till is murdered

    Emmett Till is murdered
    Emmett Till was a 13 year old who was murdered for whistling at a white women. This murder showed the world the violence that happens to African Americans for little things.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    After Rosa Parks got arrested from not giving up her seat, African Americans boycotted the buses in Montgomery to show that they will not deal with racism any longer.
  • Little Rock Nine Intervention

    The little rock Nine was a group of nine African Americans attempting to enroll in Little Rock High School. This enrollment challenged the segregation the people were used to. President Eisenhower sent Federal troops but told them not to enforce the integration.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957 is passed

    Civil Rights Act of 1957 is passed
    This Act basically stated that People no matter their color will not have their right to vote taken away with test which are impossible to pass.
  • Greensboro Sit-In Protest

    When African Americans were not served at a segregated counter they refused to leave. this started protest that spreaded to college towns through the south.
  • Integration of Ole Miss Riots

    A African American tried to move into a all white school but the governor wouldn't have that so JFK had to get involved where he would send 30,000 troops just to make sure James Meredith was alright and got to class. this started a riot which killed two people and injured more than 300.
  • The Birmingham Children’s March

    In this March there was thousands of Black kids marching peacefully and police used firehouses on them and send dogs at them. Afterwards a lot of the people that were kids protesting were arrested.
  • George Wallace’s “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door”

    George Wallace wanted segregation and did not accept the desegregation of schools so he made a stand. He stood inform of a school door and would not let two African Americans students in the school.
  • March on Washington / I Have a Dream Speech

    In Washington D.C. MKJ Made a speach to a crowd of civil rights which this speech was memorable and has been a staple of Civil rights movement for years to come.
  • 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing

    There was a church on 16th street where there was civil rights movement meetings and on September this place was bombed which killed 4 African American girls and injured 20 more.
  • Freedom Summer

    Freedom Summer
    Freedom Summer or the Mississippi project is were people tried to get African Americans registered to vote in Mississippi . by the end of the Attempt 1,200 Africans Americans were registered to vote but 17,000 Attempted to register to vote.
  • The Selma Marches

    This march was trying to ensure African Americans could exercise the right to vote but in this march the people marching get beaten by state troopers and sheriffs. This day is now known as Bloody Sunday.
