  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    A case that was taken to court after a man was seperated on a public train car from the white riders. The case lost saying that it was ok because they were "Seperate but equal".
  • Brown V. Board of Education

    A case in which the Court declared state laws keeping black and white students seperate in schools was unconsitutional.
  • Emmett Till

    A black boy that was murdered after flirting with a white woman.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    A political and social boycott agienst the discrimination/segregation on public buses. Started by Rosa Parks being aressted for not giving up her seat.
  • Little Rock School desegregation

    A school that waas agienst combining blacks and whites in school. They allows 9 blacks to go to school with the whites. Riots were started outside the school and the blacks that went to school had many problems.
  • Sit-ins in Greensboro/Nashville

    Black members of the community would go into public bars and resturants and sit in the white only seats. They would do nothing but sit their peacfully. Many would be arrested and more would take their spots. This was a big step to lower the amount of discrimination.
  • March on Birmingham

    A protest led by Martin Luther King Jr. that was organised by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. It was a campaign of non violent protest acts that caused the government to change its discrimination laws. Most blacks that portested were youth and were shot by water from high pressure hoses.
  • March On Washington

    This was a march lead by Martin Luther King Jr. It is known as one of the bigest movments for human rights in the history of the United States. This is were the famous "I Have a Dream" Speach was given.
  • Civil Rights Act 1964

    The Civil Rights Act was a bill passed that helped end discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities, and also women.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    A law that prevented discrimination in any voting practices. Created to allow blacks equal power of voting without being turnned away saying they are not alloud to vote.
  • Martin Luther King Assassinated

    MLKjr. was assasinated by James Earl Ray. He was 39 when he died. MLK played a huge role is acheiving equal rights for blacks. He played one of the biggest roles in the fight for equallity between all people.
