    A case that ruled segregating people by color was illegal. As well, it violates U.S. Constitution Amendment 14. This amendment stops the states from denying equal rights to a human.
  • Emmett Till Murder

    Emmett Till Murder
    A man was accused of hitting a white woman, as a result his face and body were badly damaged and he was murdered. His mother wished for his casket to be open to put a spotlight on the racism in America.
  • Rosa Parks & the Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks & the Montgomery Bus Boycott
    This event occured when an African American woman by the name of Rosa Parks refused to give her bus seat up. She was arrested which led Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to protest the city's buses. Later the U.S. The Supreme Court stated segregation on public transport was illegal.
  • The Little Rock Nine and Integration

    The Little Rock Nine and Integration
    A group of 9 African American students enrolled in an all White school in hopes of challenging racial segregation. Today, it is best known for fighting for a change and equal oppurtunities/chances in the U.S.
  • Greensboro Woolworth's Sit-ins

    Greensboro Woolworth's Sit-ins
    A group of 4 African American students staged a sit in, at an all white lunch counter in hopes of desegregating the place. Later, around 300 students had joined in and eventually the bar was shut down.
  • Freedom Rides

    Freedom Rides
    A protest against segregation on buses. White & African Americans would sit in each others areas in order to protest against the division.

    MLK’s Letter From Birmingham Jail
    A letter that was written by Martin Luther King Jr. after his arrest, which stated he was dissapointed in the Christians as they did not speak out against the racism.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    A rally civil rights activist organized in Washington D.C. in hopes of urging President Kennedy to pass the civil rights bill. Also where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have A Dream" speech.
  • Birmingham Baptist Church Bombing

    Birmingham Baptist Church Bombing
    The first colored church was bombed by the KKK, and the bombers said they believed white people were not equal to black people. As a result 4 young girls were killed.

    A federal law that banned segregation in public facilites, accommodations, and employment places.

    An Amendment that prohibits any poll taxing in elections for officals.

    A federal law that banned discrimination in voting; also banned literacy test, which had been used to keep African Americans from voting.

    “Bloody Sunday”/Selma to Montgomery March Voting Rights Act of 1965
    Protests that were against segregation. African Americans marched to show how angry and upset they were. They began peaceful and were ended by police violence.
  • Loving v. Virginia

    Loving v. Virginia
    A case where a white man wanted to marry a black woman, unfortunately this was against the law at the time. The couple was arrested and sent to jail. However the Virginia court was breaking the citizens 14th amendment right and released them.
