Trumans integration of the military
Truman had been talking to internl workers in the White House to see if it was within his powers to integrate the military since 1947, but he was finally granted the power on this state. He stated "It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin."

Desegregation of buses
After a year of boycotting the buses, the city buses began to lose money very quickly. So finally the Supreme Court made it illegal to segregate buses.

The SCLC was formed
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, whose members included, Martin Luther King Jr.,and Fred L. Shuttleswort. King was the first president of this Conference. This conferece played a major role in organizing the noviolent protests. Its headquarters was located in Atlanta, Georgia.“(The SCLC is) church-orientated because of the very structure of the Negro community in the South.”

President Kennedy issued the Executive Order 10925
This order banned the discrimination of federal government hiring. Saying that the Government needed to give equal opportunities to everyone."take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin."-Kennedy

SNCC was created
The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was created in the Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded by the young people who had also begun the sit in protests earlier. This organization was independent from King and the SCLC. The committee grew more radical under the head of Stockely Carmichael. The name was later cahnger to Student National Coordinating Committee.

Thousands of people walk to the Lincoln Memorial and listen to Martin Luther King Jr. deliver his "I have a Dream" speec, where he tells the world that we are all equal and he believes that one day we all will be treated equally.

24th Amendment
The 24th amendment was put into place. This amendment ended the poll tax. Before this amendment many blacks couldnt afford to vote. The 24th amendment made it easier for blacks to vote.

Civil Rights Act of 1964
President Johnson signed this into effect. this Act eliminated discrimination of any kind. Title VII also established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
