Benjamin Mays
Basics Mays was a civil rights activist. He played an important rule in MLK Jr. life, he was considered a mentor. he also published a book called "The Negro's God as Reflected in His Literature" is almost a version of his veiw of the bible. He was a very important baptist minister, whom a lot of people looked up to. -
Herman Talmadge Election
Governors Feud Herman Talmadge served two terms of govenor in Georgia. AT the time he was a democrat. Talmadge went to UGA and got a law degree, but this is ironic due to his father ruining the credidation (Eugene Talmadge). -

In 1948 E. Talmadge was elected govenor, but he sadly died before his time in office. Then the Luetenant govenor Tohmson claimed he would be the next govenor following the constitution. During this the legislature elected a Talmadge's son. This created a big public isuuse. -
Brown Vs. Board of Education
March on WashingtonWhen the supreme court decided segregated schools, were unconstitutuonal. This made any segregated schools illegal. This event sparked Sibley commission. -
Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes
Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes were the first two black studennts to enroll to UGA. After knowing that UGA was a white school they applied to many other schools, but they still kept applying to UGA.Finally acceptd, there were protest and mobs outside there dorms. The school did not want this so this was there reason for suspinsion. Later, a court case would cancel there suspension and allow them to go back to school. -
Albany Movment
This protest was arranged by the SNCC, and MLK Jr., they wanted what Albany had taken. Such as: Voting Rights, innocence, and many other civil rights movements. -
March on Washington
March on WashingtonWhen about 200,000 americans went to march, to show the stuggles that blacks were facing both politicaly and socialy. This led to "I have a dream". -

This speech given by MLK Jr. occured during the march on Washingotn. He called an end to racisim and segregation. MLK Jr. was a big activist on Civil Rights he would fight for whatever he felt was right, along with several others. -
Civil Rights Law
President Johnson passed a law ending segregation in public. It proved to be a turning point, after Brown vs. Board was not enforced quick everyone knew a hard time was coming. There were leaders that fought for what was right knowing the punishment. This was a turning point for America. -
Lester Maddox in Office
Maddox has a pretty long history. One thing he is very well know for is refusing to serve blacks in his buisness. He ran for many differnt political positions and was just about to give up before being elected lieutenant governor to Jimmy Carter. -
Maynard Jackson Election
Jackson as the first African American mayor of Atlanta. He served three terms, two consecutive & one following Andrew Young. Later he ran for senate against Talmadge, he did not win though became very popular among the citizens.
