Johnson signs the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to prevent literacy tests, poll taxes, and the grandfather clause from disenfranchising targeted groups. -
MLK assassination
Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee by James Earl Ray. -
Civil Rights Act of 1968
President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968. This stopped discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of a house.
