Govenors race and end of white primary
For a breif period Georgia had 3 govenors. Eugene Talmadge won election to a fourth term but he died. His son Herman took his place and was appointed by state legislator. The end of white primary was southern states of U.S. had any non-white voters were prohipted from voting. -

1956 State flag
Georgia people wanted a flag to represent the old Confederate flag. Some people belived it was to honor the dead of the civil war. -
Sibley Commission
Most schools refuse to intergrate and a bill was passed that if a school agreed the state would cut their funding. The Sibley commission was to help the problem of intergration of schools -
SNCC
It was founded by young people who had emerged as leaders of the sit-in protest movement intiated by 4 black college students. -
Albany Movement
Albany movementWorkers from NAACP and SNCC wanted to test the rule that segergation was illegal on buses and train stations and sat in white only section at an Albany GA train station. -
Hunter to UGA
Federal court said that African American students named Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter were to attend UGA. Georgia officals cut off funds to UGA, and people were scared UGA was gonna close down. -
March on Washignton
The march was for jobs and freedom. One of the largest political rallies for human rights in U.S. history and demanded rights fro African Americans. -
Civil rights Act
On this day congress met to vote on this act. It outlawed segergation of African Americans and women. -
