The death of the 14 year old, Emmet Till, lead to the nation seeing how far some people would go to be prejudice. IT lead to a national outcry for civil rights. -
Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott
Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man, and she was arrested. People started boycotting busses as a form of protest. This inspired many peaceful protest everywhere. -
Sit- ins
This peaceful form of protesting was when black people would sit in a whites only zone to protest segregation. This eventually lead to desegregation in restaurants, and many other places. It also inspired many protests like it. -
Freedom Riders
Many people rode on busses through out the south to protest discrimination on busses. This lead to equality in transportation. -
March on Washington
The March on Washington was an event where thousands of people came together to hear and talk about civil rights. There were speakers, singers, musicians, and many others. This inspired some many people to get into the movement, and brought everyone together. -
Selma March
This was a march where people walked from Selma, Alabama to Washington D.C. for voting rights. They were protected by the Federal Guard. The march lead to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -

This got rid of voter suppression and the ways white people kept black people from voting (grandfather act, voting tax, literacy tests ect.)
