Brown vs. Board of Education
Thirteen African-American parents tried to enroll their children in white schools and all were denied. The parents filed a suit against the Topeka Board of Education. This case went to the supreme court and in 1954 was ruled for the plaintiffs. This case ended legal segregation in public schools. -
Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott
She refused to give up her seat in the colored section of the bus to a white person. She was arrested. This incident became a symbol of the Civil Rights Movement. Rosa Parks was an activist fighting against racial segregation. -
"I Have a Dream" speech- Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. gave this incredible speech during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in which he calls for an end to racial segregation. It was a defining moment in the Civil Rights movement.
