Greensboro, NC: Woolworth Sit-ins
Four African American male students Joseph A. McNeil, Franklin E. McCain, William Smith, and Clarence Henderson sat down at Woolworth's lunch counter and peacefully asked for service the black males request was refused and this event led to the sit-ins.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. arrested ; Letter From Birmingham Jail
Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested along with several other African Americans for protesting the treatment of black people in Birmingham Alabama. Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot while standing on the balcony of the motel that he was staying in at the time he was pronounced dead after his arrival at a Memphis hospital. He was 39 years old.
