  • Dred Scott v. Sanford

    Dred Scott v. Sanford
    In this case Dred Scott was a slave from Missouri that wanted to be a free man so he decided to escape from Missouri and reside in Illinois. He then returned to Missouri which he filed a case to the Missouri court saying he had resided in a free state so he should be a free man which he lost. Later on Scott filed another suit which his master said that no slave could be a citizen. He ended up losing again with court deciding that those who's ancestors were slave can not become Citizen.
  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment
    The 13th Amendment was created to abolish slavery and was passed by congress on January 31st 1865 and proclaimed on December 18th 1865
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    The 14th Amendment granted citizenship to those that were born in America or who were former slaves and also equal protection of the law.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    The 15th Amendment granted the citizen the right to vote and they can not be denied a vote based on color, race or previous servitude
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    In this case a man named Homer Plessy who is seven- eighths Caucasian decided to test the separate cart act which separated white and blacks. Plessy decided to sit in the black cart because under the law said that he is still technicality black. The people in the black told him he needed to sit in the white cart which came the question did the cart act violate the 14th amendment. The court sided with Ferguson saying it did not in itself constitute unlawful discrimination
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    This Amendment was made to say that the right to vote can not be denied based on sex which granted women the right to vote.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    In this case in deals with segregation in public school saying that most African Americans were denied entry to a public school which then raised the question if this violated the 14th Amendment. The court sided with Brown saying "Separate but equal educational facilities for racial minorities is inherently unequal"
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964
    This act was made to prohibit discrimination based on color, race, religion, sex or national origin.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Voting Rights Act of 1965
    The Voting Rights Act was made to outlaw the discriminated voting that was adopted in a lot of southern states after the Civil War and was made to enforce the 15th Amendment.

    Title IX
    The Title IX was made to prohibit sex based discrimination in any school or with any other education program.
  • Americans with Disablities Act

    Americans with Disablities Act
    This Act was made to prohibit the discrimination of Americana with disabilities in the public life like jobs, transportation and even in private places.
