    What happened:
    NAACP combines five cases, from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, and District of Columbia into one case for the Supreme Court. The court decides 9-0 the separate but equal is wrong. However, many of these black students will never got to school with white kids.
  • Murder of Emmett Till

    Murder of Emmett Till
    Date: 8-28-1955
    Who: Roy and Cardyn Bryant
    Where: Money, Mississippi
    Accused of whistling at white woman. Three days later Roy Bryant and others kidnapped, eye detached, ear cut off, bar wire, wrapped around his neck, weighted down by 75 pound cottoning in fan, thrown into water.

    Who: Rosa Parks and MLK Jr.
    Where: Montgomery, Alabama
    What happened: Rosa is arrested for failing to move seats on the bus. She is fined ten dollars. MLK Jr. and church send out flyers to boycott the busy system Dec. 5 - The bus ran empty for 381 days. Supreme Court ruled bus has to let black ride.

    Who: MLK and 60 pastors
    Where: Atlanta, Georgia
    What happened: A meeting of black church pastors to coordinate events for black. MLK was elected the first president. This group used a nonviolent strategy. This group also registered black to vote, opposed Vietnam war and provide better jobs for blacks.

    Who: NAACP and 9 black students
    Where: Little Rock, Arkansas
    What happened: Nine students wanted to go to white school. The governor of Arkansas call out the National Guard to stop them. President Eisenhower calls in 1,200 military men to escort these students from home to class. 1959, all schools fully integrated.

    Where: Greensboro, North Carolina
    What happened: Go to Wordsworth’s buy items. They go sit at the lunch counter. They are refused service and told to leave, but they stayed. Day after day they came back and did the same thing. The amount of students grew over the day to 1,000.
  • Freedom Riders

    Who: 436 individuals in 60 separate freedom rides
    Where: Start in Washington D.C. go to the Deep South to desegregate bus stations, diners and hotels.
    What happened: A diverse group of volunteers from 39 states, most were college students. Arrived in Anniston, Alabama blocked by KKK. Trees slashes, fire bombed, buses burned, and bearings town after town.

    What happened: 250,000 people marched in Washington D.C. It was peaceful and respectful protest for jobs and freedom. Martin Luther King Jr. Gave his “I have a dream speech.” MLK Jr. Was the last speaker of the day.

    What happened: On February 21 on 1965 in Audubon Ballroom Newyork the civil rights leader who was part of the Nation of Islam He wanted black people to believe in themselves and start their own business. He was shot 21 times. Thomas hogan convicted of killing (R.I.P) may he rest in peace Malcom X

    What happened: On March,7,1965 600 people marched in Selma Alabama blacks marched 54 miles to Montgomery but when they made it to the bridge. Edmond bridge troopers bruetelly beat up the blacks up

  • Assassination of Martin Luther King

    Assassination of Martin Luther King

    Who: MLK Jr.
    Where: Lorraine Motel, Memphis, Tennessee
    What happened: On April 4, 1968 they were striking workers in protesting Memphis. Went back to the motel. Shot lower right side of his face with a Remington rifle. James Roger is sentenced for 99 years in prison. His death marks the end his civil rights movements. (R.I.P) MLK may he rest in peace
