  • Sweatt v. Painter

    A case that successfully challenged the ¨ Separate but equal¨. The school's law for colored people became worse and required the university to admit Sweatt to the school.
  • Emmett Till’s Murder

    At the age of 14, Emmett Till an African American was killed for flirting with white women. He was taken from his house around midnight and abused very badly until he was dead, and through into the river. The 2 men who were killed did not get any punishments.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    An African American Lady named Rosa Parks got on the bus after a hard day at work, she refused to give up her seat for a white person and that caused her to get arrested. All the African Americans started a boycott and would not ride the bus so the bus would lose money
  • Creation of the Montgomery Improvement Association

    Went against the law to protect black people. It fought for the civil rights of African Americans.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Prohibits discrimination of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It outlawed the discriminatory voting practices
  • Greensboro Sit-In

    It demonstrates the potential strength of militancy and enabled a new generation of younger people to gain confidence in their own leadership.
  • Albany Campaign

    Albany was protected in many nonviolent ways like mass demonstrations, jail-ins, sit-ins, boycotts, and litigation. They were protesting against institutionalized segregation but it failed because it didn't achieve many concessions from the local government.
  • Mississippi Freedom Summer

    It was designed to draw the nation's attention to the violence against Mississippi black people to try to show their constitutional rights. It became a success when gaining national media attention for Mississippi and the southern disenfranchisement of African Americans.
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

    He was shot 21 times his assassination lead to anger among black Americans. This caused the civil rights movement to lead to the desegregation of schools and more equality.
  • Fair Housing Act

    It makes it illegal to discriminate in housing because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental health, etc.
  • Shirley Chisolm’s Presidential Campaign

    She was the first black candidate for a major-party nomination for President of the United States. The first woman to run for the Democratic Party's nomination.
  • Northern Violence over School Integration

    They found methods to keep black and white. They say its the best option for kids.
  • Hank Aaron’s Home Run Record

    His fourth-ending home run off the Dodgers AL Downing gave him 715 hits. It took him 39 years.
  • National Convention- 1976

    It was a political convention of the Republican party. They used it to select the president of the parties.
