    End of White Primary
    The end of the white primary was in 1946. White primary made it illegal for African Americans to vote in the democratic primaries.   • Brown vs. Board

    Brown vs. Board
    1954-Linda brown and her family sued the board of education because she had to walk a long distance to her bus stop, while the white bus stop was very close to her home. Her case was paired with a few other cases and got put in front of the Supreme Court, who decided that "separate but equal" was unconstitutional, and ordered that all schools should be integrated.

    In 1956, the Georgia state flag got changed. The confederate flag was added to it, which the reason was to honor the centennial of the civil war. However, there was much controversy because people thought this was to show resistance to integration, and a representation of slavery.     During September of 1957, "Little Rock Nine" occurred. Daisy bates organized 9 African American students to attend a high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. The students got lots of hate and prejudice for attending.

    Sibley commission- The sibley commission was a study of integration. The group would interview people to see what they thought about integrating schools and the results y hey got were that people would rather close schools than integrate.   • First African American UGA students

    First African American UGA students
    Two students were the first African American students to attend the University of Georgia. Charlayne Hunter was the first black female to attend, and later she became a world renowned journalist.     March on Washington
    March on Washington was a March intended to push for the passing of the Civil Rights Act. Leaders of the protest we're worried that no one was going to show up, but a whopping 200,000 people showed up.     Albany Movement
    Albany movement- the SNCC created the Albany movement in order to push for intervention in Albany. Over 500 people were put in jail during this protest,Martin Luther Kind Jr. Being one of them. The police chief read about past protest and was one step ahead of the protestors, so the movement was considered a failure. It was created for the purpose of sit ins and other protests by children. Adults were having to miss work and were losing jobs because the protests were taking to long, so it was decided to create a Comittee that would be consisting of students.

    . The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was an act for integration of all public areas, and no discrimination was allowed in business or labor unions. It was begun by president John F. Kennedy, but he was shot before it could be passed. Lyndon B.     Manyard Jackson becomes governor
    Manyard Jackson was the first African American mayor of Atlanta, which was considered a big deal because Atlanta is considered a major southern city. He served 2 consecutive terms, with one additional non consecutive term. He played a key role in bringing the olimpics to Atlanta which occurred in 1996.
