    Brown v. Board of Education
    May 17,1954, Oliver Brown tired with his daughter being forced to travel hours for school, as school were segregated. He went up to the NAACP to fix the issue, the NAACP went to the Supreme Court by combing 4 other cases into one big case. The Supreme Court deem the previous decision separate but equal wasn’t equal. They easily pass the decision to desegregate schools.

    Accused of whistling at white woman. 3 days later Roy Bryant and others kidnapped, eye detached, ear cut off, barb wire wrapped around his neck, weighted by 75 pound cotton gin fan, then thrown into the water

    Rosa was arrested for failing to move seats on the bus.
    She is fined $10 People sent out flyers the bus system on Dec 5.Buses ran empty for 381 days, Supreme Court ruled Blacks can ride on the bus

    Meeting of Black Church pastors to coordinate events for Black people. MLK was the first President. Group used non-violent measures, provided jobs to black people.

    9 students wanted to go to a white school. The governor of Arkansas called the national guard to stop them. Eisenhower called in 1200 military men to escort them from home to class.1959 all students Inter grated.

    Go to Wordsworth’s buy items. Then go sit at the lunch counter. They were refused service and told to leave, but they stayed. Day after day, they came back and did the same thing. The amount of students grew to over a thousand.

    A diverse group of volunteers from 39 states, most were college students. Arrived in Anniston, Alabama blocked by the KKK. Tires were slashed fires started, buses burned and beatings in every town

    250,000 people marched in Washington D.C. it was peaceful and respectful protest for jobs and freedom. Martin Luther king gave his “I have a dream” speech. MLK was the last speaker of the day.

    Malcom X
    Civil rights leader born Malcom little who was a part of the Nation of Islam. He wanted black people to believe in themselves and start their own business. He was shot in New York 21 times by Thomas Hagan which was latter convicted.

    Black marchers wanted to walk 54 miles to Montgomery to register to vote. At Edmond bridge troopers brutally beat them.

  • Martin Luther King Jr.

    Martin Luther King Jr.
    In Lorraine motel, Memphis Tennessee while striking sanitation workers protest. He went back to the motel. He was shot in his lower right side of his face by a Remington rifle. James Earl Ray sentenced to 99 years. The civil rights movement ended with his death.
