    Accused of whistling at white women. 3 days later Roy Bryant and others kidnapped, eye-detached, ear cut off bar wire-wrapped around his neck, whited down by 75 pounds containing fan, thrown into water
  • Rosa parks/boycott

    Rosa parks/boycott
    Rosa parks Martin Luther king jr it was placed in Montgomery Alabama. Rosa parks is arrested for failing to move seats on the bus. She is fined $10. MLK JR and church send out flyers to boycott the bus system on Dev 5. The buses ran empty for 31 days. Supreme Court ruled bus had to let black ride.

    9 students wanted to go to the white school. The government of Arkansas call out the national guard to stop them. President cisenhower calls in 1200 military men to escort these students from home to class last schools fully integrated
  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference

    Southern Christian Leadership Conference
    A meeting of black church pastors to coordinate events for black people. MLK was elected the 1st president this group used a nonviolent strategy. This group also registered blacks to vote, opposed Vietnam war and provided better jobs for black.
  • Freedom Riders

    A diverse group of volunteers from 39 states, most were college students. Arrived in Anniston, Alabama blocked by KKK tires slashed, fire bombed p, buses burned and beatings, town after town.

    250000 people marched in Washington DC it was peaceful and respectful protest for jobs and freedom Martin Luther King Jr gave his “I have a dream” speech MLK was the last speaker of the day.

    Black marchers wanted to walk 54 miles to Montgomery to register to vote. At the Edmond bridge troopers beat them.

    The special provision of the voting rights act were extended for another seven years and were broadened to address voting discrimination against members of language minorities group.

    Go to woolworths buy items. Then go sit at the lunch counter. They are refused service and told to leave, but they stayed. Day after day they came back and did the same thing. The amount of students grew over the days to 1000.
