    Oliver Brown and Linda Brown were involved. This took place in Topeka. Kansas. The NAACP combined at least five cases into one to be able to go to the supermarket. The court had decided 9-0. Being separate but equal was wrong. Linda had never gone to a desegregated school. A lot of schools were closing until 1954.
  • Murder of Emmett Till

    They were accused of whistling at a white woman. Three days later Roy Bryant and others kidnapped him detached his eyes cut off his ears wrapped barbwire around his neck and weighted it down with a 75 pound cotton gin fan and he was thrown into the water.

    A meeting of black church pastors to coordinate events for black people. MLK was elected the 1st President. This group used a nonviolent-strategy. This group also registered blacks to vote, opposed Vietnam war and provide better jobs for blacks.

    9 students wanted to go to the white school. The governor of Arkansas call out the National Guard to stop them, President Eisenhower calls in 1,200 military men to escort these students from home to class. 1959 all schools fully integrated.

    A diverse group volunteers from 39 states most were college students arrived in Anniston Alabama blocked by KKK trees slashed free bombed buses burned town after town
  • March on Washington

    250,000 people marched Washington DC it was peaceful and respectful protest for jobs and freedom MLK gave his “I have a dream” speech. MLK was the last speech of the body

  • Selma to Montgomery marches (Bloody Sunday)

    Blacks march wanted to walk 54 miles to Montgomery to register to vote. At the Edmond bridge troopers brutally beat them
  • Voting rights act

    Enabling the right to vote of African Americans and discrimination in voting in voting. Now a federal matter not state.
  • Assassination of MLK

    Stirring station workers protest in Mephis. Went back to the model. Shot lower right side of his mouth with a Remington rifle. James early ray sentenced to 99 years. His death marks the end of the civil rights movement.
  • Rosa Parks and the boycott

    Rosa is arrested for failing to move seats on the bus she is fined $10. MLK jr and church sent out flyers to boycott the bus system on dec 5 the buses ran empty for 381 days supreme time ruled bus had to let blacks ride
