On 1st December 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a public bus in Montgomery in Alabama. Rosa Parks was tried and was convicted for disorderly conduct and she was also convicted for violating a local ordinance. -
The Campaign of " Massive Resistance ' to school desegregation
Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus was ordered to his state’s national guard to bar entry to nine African-American students to Little Rock’s Central High School. Nearly a month later confrontation was ended when President Eisenhower sent in his troops to protect the students. -
The Year of sit-ins
Although sit-is were not a new technique having been used since the 1930's. The movement for the Civil Rights in 1958 they proved that it is a successful tool in many instances from the sit-ins at the lunch counter. -
Television as a catalyst for change
By 1960 90% of American had a television. Television really became a catalyst for a change on a very massive scale. People could really now see what really was happening all over the country. All the country s were Selma, Birmingham, and Memphis. -
Freedom Rides
The Freedom Rides were journeys made by the Civil Rights activists to the Southern States of the U.S.A. The journeys were made to test the Supreme Court decision. Boynton v. Virginia (1960) which was ruled that segregation was unconstitutional on interstate travel. -
March on Washington
August 1963 their was about a quarter of a million people that had marched down the National Mall in D.C for jobs and freedom. Actually march had six official goals, they were calling meaningful civil rights law, a massive federal works program. -
Malcolm X formerly adovocates self-defense and Black nationalism
The racism had excluded black people not only from the voting booth but also from the accumulation of wealth and resources. The gov did turn it's attention to the economic issues with the war on poverty. But programs like Head Start Community Action Programmes. Also the Aid to families with Dependent Children were unfuned. -
The March from Selma to Montgomery
Since 1963 the civil right groups had an undertaken ambitious voter registration program in Selma Alabama. When the police had killed a local resident Jimmie Lee Jackson in February 1965, director of the Selma Movement, James Bevel. -
Lowndes County Freedom Organisation (LCFO) formed as a political party
The Black Panther Part was dubbed because of the symbol on the ballot papers, the LCFO was beyond of voting and was advocated the political education. They had fought for the redistribution of wealth through out the tax reform in the face of constant violence.
