It upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities were equal in quality. Jim Crow laws were created after this ruling for segregation in the south. This was a big landmark in American civil rights. -

A 14 year old African American from Chicago was visiting his family from Mississippi, and he was brutally killed. Till was flirting with a white girl in Mississippi and her family brutally killed Till. -

About 40,000 African Americans avoided the busing system in Montgomery. They were protesting the unjust rules on the buses and the hiring of black drivers. -

The SCLC was traced back to the Montgomery bus boycotts. They were created to fight racism and unjust in America. MLK had a huge influence on the creation of this group. It's a nationwide organization with different chapters across the US. -
Little Rock Nine
A group of 9 African Americans that enrolled at a all white school in Arkansas. This was one of the first movements to get African Americans into white schools. They were faced with a lot of protests. The African American students put their lives at risk to enroll in a all white school. -
Formation of NAACP
Americas oldest and largest civil rights organization. Formed in New York city to with its anti-lynching campaign. The group won many legal battles and had over 2200 members. -
Malcom X
An African American human rights activist. He didn't only use non violent protests he used violent protest. He worked with the leaders of Islam to try to get young African Americans to convert. -
Student Non Violent Coordinating Commission
The SNCC was created so young blacks could have a bigger voice in the Civil Rights movement. MLK ran the SNCC. The group aimed at desegregation movements and marches throughout America. They used MLK as their voice. They also directed voter registration in the south for blacks. -
Sit in movement
When African Americans would sit in white only sections at restaurants and buses. 4 black students from North Carolina sat in a all white section at a restaurants and they were faced with protests. Many blacks were arrested and beat during these movements. -

Founded in 1942 it was a group created to end racial inequality in America. They tried to achieve peace by having non violence protest throughout the United States. They created to sit-in movement when African Americans would sit in white only sections at restaurants and buses. -
The Freedom Riders
Civil rights activist who rode interstate buses in the south. The groups were confronted by police and protesters and they were often beaten up. When on the buses they grew international attention. There plan was to reach New Orleans. This act was huge in the Civil Rights movement -
Freedom Summer
A voter registration movement trying to get African Americans in the south to register to vote. Civil rights groups were behind this idea and they faced beatings and getting arrested from the southerners. There was also a murder of 3 people. -
MLK I have a dream
Delivered by MLK in Washington DC at a Civil Rights march. The speech was calling for the end of racism, start of jobs and freedom. There were over 250,000 people in attendance and it was held on the steps of the Lincoln memorial. -

Race Riots in Watts
Took place in the Watts neighborhoods in LA. It started when two white people beat up a black man. The riot left 34 dead and over 1000 people injured. There was about 40 million dollars worth of property damage in the neighborhood. -

King was staying at a room in Memphis and was shot and killed by James Earl Ray. MLK was a nobel peace prize winner and a important person in our history. He was the main reason to why the Civil Rights act was created. -

A time period in Boston when the school district desegregated. They desegregated through a busing system. Many people were against this idea and people were protesting the outcome. -
Rodney King Trial
The Jury acquitted 3 officers in the beating of Rodney King. The trial led to protests and eventually riots in LA. Rodney King was pulled over in LA and was beat by police for resisting arrest. All the tension built up led to the riots.
