Montgomery Bus Boycott (Ends)
The Montgomery bus boycott was the first large protest of the African Americans. Once Rosa Parks refused her seat, the cause snowballed, and no blacks rode the montogomery busses for over a year. The demonstration succeded because of perserverance, but the organization of the protestors and the media coverage were also factors. The boycott also shows the sucess of nonviolent tactics to enact change. -
Freedom Riders Summer
The Freedom Riders were a group of civil rights activists that rode busses from the north into the south to test segregation laws. The busses had been officially desegregated, but much of the south didn't follow those laws. The Riders were sucessful because of perserverance and media coverage. They made significant change in the south by exposing the horror of racial violence in the south. The media showed the south's disregard for federal laws. -
