Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man who was standing on the bus. She was sent to jail. Important= many African Americans after that refused to take the bus and instead walked to and from destination. Made buses lose business -
Martin Luther King Jr. arrested
King was arrested when leading a protest in Atlanta, Georgia Important= Made African Americans want to fight back more to have justice be served! -
"I Have a Dream"
About 200,000 people join the March on Washington. Congregating at the Lincoln Memorial, participants listen as Martin Luther King delivers his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Important= this speech moved many americans (of all races) and made many more realize that equality should be done! -
Four girls killed
Four girls attending Sunday school are killed when a bomb explodes at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, a popular location for civil rights meetings. Important= i think this is an important date because many people were angry with the deaths of these little girls and riots broke out -
The 24th Amendment
Abolishes the poll tax, which originally had been instituted in 11 southern states after Reconstruction to make it difficult forpoor blacks to vote.

President Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The most sweeping civil rights legislation since Reconstruction, the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination of all kinds based on race, color, religion, or national origin. The law also provides the federal government with the powers to enforce desegregation. Important= people begin to realize that equality is definately a possibility in the near future -

While giving a speech at the Manhatten Audubon Ballroom, he was shot and killed by 3 memebers of the NOI (nation of Islam) Important= made African Americans mad, but also want to spread message more -
Martin Luther King Jr. shot and killed
At age 39, is shot as he stands on the balcony outside his hotel room. Escaped convict and committed racist James Earl Ray is convicted of the crime. Important= many people thought it was unfair and continued to have speeches and protests in honor of MLK
