  • Brown V. Board of Education

    Brown V. Board of Education
    It took on May 17,1954. Oliver Brown is the father of Linda Brown and the NAACP lawyer was involved in this case. At first took place at Kansas then it got moved to South Carolina but it got moved to Virginia after that it took over Delaware at the District of Columbia. It overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson with 9-0. It separated the whites and blacks in many things. For example, they separated, schools, cars, stores, toilets, and blacks had to be in the back of the bus and whites in the front.
  • Murder of Emmet Till

    Murder of Emmet Till
    This place took on August 28, 1955. The place took at a river in Mississippi called Tallahatchie River or at Money, Mississippi. Roy Bryant is the husband of Carolyn Bryant and J.W. Milan (son in law). The 14 year old boy (Emmit Till) whistled at a white woman.
  • Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott
    It happened on December 1,1955. Rosa parks and white people (racist) were involved in this situation in the bus. It took place at Montgomery, Alabama. Rosa parks didn't give up her seat to a white person when some seats were taken. She refused to sit on the back of the bus when she was told by the white person or the bus driver.
  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference

    Southern Christian Leadership Conference
    The SCLC was an organization linked to the black
    churches 60 black ministers were pivotal in
    organizing civil rights activism. Martin Luther King Jr was elected President. They focused its non violent strategy on citizenship , school and efforts to desegregate individual cities. It played key roles in the March on Washington In 1963 and the voting Rights Campaign and March to Montgomery in 1965
  • Little Rock 9

    It started on September 25, 1957. There were 9 African Americans involved. It happened in Central high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. White students threw objects and shouted obscenities at the African Americans.
  • Greensboro Sit Ins

    Happened on February 1,1960. College students that were started with 4 but then it grew more larger. February 3, 60 students. February 4, 300 students. February 5, 50 white men. Took place at Greensboro, North Carolina. Wool worth lunch counter- could buy items, but not be served food.
  • Ruby Bridges

    Ruby Bridges
    Happened on November 14, 1962. Ruby ridges was involved. It happened at New Orleans, Louisiana. They would take a test and one of 4, 6 year old black children passed a hard test to go to a white school. She was escorted by federal marshals and she was the only one to be taught by one teacher.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    Took place in May 4, 1961 at southern states. 436 individuals on 60 separated rides and groups care ,SNCC,NAACP, and Nashville Student Movement.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    August 28,1963, at Washington D.C.. There was about 250,000 people involved in Washington. People were peaceful and respectful protest for jobs and freedom. Martin Luther King gave his famous speech “I have a Dream”. It was the last speech on that day.

    It happened on July 2, 1964. Martin Luther King and Landon B. Johnson. There was enabled federal government to prevent racial discrimination and segregation based on race,color,religion and or national origin in private business and public facilities.
  • Assassination of Malcom X

    It happened on February 21, 1965. Thomas hagan, Norman Butler Thomas Johnson were involved. It took place at New York, NY and Audubon ballroom. Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam and found the organization of Afro-American unity. His departure from the nation of Islam and his evolving views on race and civil rights made him a target.
  • Selma to Montgomery Marches (Bloody Sunday)

    Selma to Montgomery Marches (Bloody Sunday)
    It started on March 7, 1965. The people involved were SCLC and John Lewis. This conflict took place at Selma, Alabama. It aimed the highlight of the need for voting rights for African-Americans. Around 600 civil rights marchers left Selma to head on the east US route 80 to March to the state capital of Montgomery.

    Started on Aug 6, 1965. LB Johnson was involved is this situation. They banned literacy test and poll tax. The voting is a federal matter not a state matter.
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King

    Assassination of Martin Luther King
    Happen on April 4, 1968. Took place at Memphis, Tennessee and Lorraine Motel. James Earl Ray assassinated Martin Luther King. Martin was shot by a sniper at around 6:01 PM while standing on the balcony of his motel room.
