1946 Governor's Race/End of the White Primary
Videos and Source of ImformationThere were three very experienced men running for govenor in Georgia and one of the those men died after he was elected govenor but died a month after, this man is called Eugene Talmadge. Later in March 1947 Georgia Supreme Court stated that M. E Thompson should be govenor, so they confirmed in September 1948 that they were going to have another election to solve this issue. So Thompson was govenor until September when then election was held.
Therefore Herman Talmadge was officiallythe govenor. -
Herman Talmadge
Herman Eugene Talmadge, son of Eugene Talmadge, ran for governor in 1946.Herman Talmadge ran for Senate and was elected. He focused on helping the farmers and others in rural areas. As a result of this, the food-stamp act and the Rural Development Act of 1972 were created. -
