    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta had a huge impact on the US Constitution. The United State adopted the Bill of Rights due to this Political Conviction. King John sign the charter to grant concessions to his citizens to prevent a civil war.

    Royal Colonies

    A Royal colony was administered by a royal governor and council that was appointed by the British crown. The Royal Colonies had a representative assembly that was elected by the people. This gave people an idea of what a democracy was. By 1763, most colonies became Royal Colonies
  • Petition of Rights

    Petition of Rights
    The Petition of Rights is seen as a predecessor to the third, fifth, sixth and seventh amendments. The Petition of Right is a major English constitutional document that sets out specific liberties of the subject that the king is prohibited from infringing.

    Charter Colonies were written contracts between the British King and the American colonists, defining the share each should have in the government and were not to be changed without the consent of both parties. These colonies showed America can negotiate with other countries.

    Salutary Neglect

    Salutary neglect, policy of the British government from the early to mid-18th century regarding its North American colonies under which trade regulations for the colonies were laxly enforced and imperial supervision of internal colonial affairs was loose as long as the colonies remained loyal to the British government and contributed to the economic profitability of Britain. The American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence was the inevitable conclusion to the salutary neglect.

    The Albany Plan of Union was a plan to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government. The Albany Plan was a failure. Despite the failure of the Albany Plan, it served as a model for future attempts at union. It conceived of the colonies of mainland North America as a collective unit.

    This conflicted display another long imperial struggle between Britain and France. In 1763, there was a peace conference that ended the war. This is also known as the Seven Year War. The war left Britain in debt. The British government thought the citizens of America would pay it off for them. This caused the colonies to get unhappy.

    The Stamp Act of 1765 was the first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British government. The colonist argued that the act was unconstitutional. The passing of the act eventually lead America to the path of rebellion.

    Stamp Act Congress
    The Stamp Act Congress met in the Federal Hall building in New York City between October 7 and 25, 1765. It was the first colonial action against a British measure and was formed to protest the Stamp Act issued by British Parliament on March 1765. The Stamp Act Congress was attended by 27 representatives of nine of the thirteen colonies. This had a huge impact on America as it was the first time they showed independence and went against the British
  • First Continental Congress

    Fifty-five colonial representatives were in attendance for this meeting in Philadelphia, PA. twelve of the thirteen colonies were represented at the meeting, with Georgia being the exception. Three results were, a plan was created, Suffolk was revoked and Declaration of Rights was written. This was important as people started to consider independence.
  • Second Continental Congress

    They all agreed upon making a continental army to combat British military force. George Washington would lead the army. At this time many of the delegates were not seeking independence so they sought a treaty. King George III did not look at it. This impact America's path as they prepared for a potential fight.
