    The council of Chalcedon
    The Council of Chalcedon was a Council which was held on the October 8 to November 1 - AD 451, in Bithynia. The Council was founded by the Emperor Marcian but the council was approved by Pope Leo the Great. The Council of Chalcedon was reconised to have been one of the first councils in the Great Church. Not all people complied to the teachings, it taught that Jesus was Divine. After years of misunderstanding, they came to the realisation that Jesus was God and Man in one body.

    East - West Schism

    East - West Schism
    The East-West Schism, other wise known as the Great Schism of 1054. The Great Schism is both a Catholic and Orthodox church. These both started in the 11th century on July 16 and it still strives today. The Mediterranean world was severely rattled and was annihilated because of a barbarian invasion which came from the west and a rise of power form Islam which came from the East.

    The Black Death
    The Plague or The Black Death was one of the most disastrous if not the most disastrous diseases that has ever hit the human body. The death count was so severe that the exact number of deaths is unknown but the estimation is about 75 to 200 million people. The disease was found in one desert called the Gobi desert. The Plague was so mind rattling that even Christians were beginning to question if God existed and if God did exist why was he punishing the world.

    The Reformation, Martin Luther’s publication of 95 Theses and 1555 Peace of Augsburg
    The 95 Theses were 95 affirmations implying the Church life’s teachings are erratic. Martin Luther students nailed the 95 Theses to the Wittenberg Castle. That sparked a public outrage on the actions of the church, after this outrage Luther was banished by the Emperor in 1524. In 1555 all the German princes had a major opportunity to choose which religion their country land should follow. The Reformation swept through the all of Europe which caused the Peace of Augsburg.

    The Council of Trent

    The Council of Trent
    The Council of Trent according to history was held in 1545 - 1653. This council was one of the most important Roman Catholic Church councils which was founded by Pope Paul III. This council taught about the salvation of God, which is a gift purely from God himself. It announced that God was the salvation and salvation came through faith in God and his good actions. The Council of Trent combined Scripture and Tradition to form the Revelation of God.

    The first Vatican Council
    The First Vatican Council was held between 1869 - 1870 and was attended by approximately 750 bishops. It summarised the faith of all catholic and handled the authority of the Pope. The Council taught all Christians that the Pope was the successor of St Peter and he had power over all the church. The Pope has the power to make infallible statements when he teaches that a belief concerning faith is to be believed by the whole church.
  • The second Vatican Council

    The second Vatican Council
    The Second Vatican Council was declared by Pope John XXIII. The Council was held in 1962 all the way until 1965. The Council had about 2600 bishops attend from every corner of the world. This Council mainly opened so that a spiritual renewal for the catholic church and to let the all the bishops know about present issues for the catholic society. Another reason why this council was opened was to reunite the church after WWII.
