    Eastern orthodox church

    Jesus Christ, according to sacred tradition formed the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Great Schism split the main faction of Christianity into two divisions, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox.

    Lutheran Church

    Martin Luther was a German priest, theologian, author and hymnwriter. A former Augustinian friar, he is best known among Christians as the seminal figure in the Protestant Reformation and as the namesake of Lutheranism. The Lutheran Church split from the the Roman Catholics. Martin luther did not beleive in the selling of indulgences

    Church of England/Anglican

    King Henry VIII (1491-1547) ruled England for 36 years, presiding over sweeping changes that brought his nation into the Protestant Reformation. The Church of England spereated from the Roman Catholic Church. The reason for the seperation was because the Catholic church wouldn't allow him to annul his marriage to his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, who failed to produce any male heirs.
  • Baptist

    The political and religious leader Roger Williams (c. 1603?-1683) is best known for founding the state of Rhode Island and advocating separation of church and state in Colonial America. He is also the founder of the first Baptist church in America. They seperated from the catholic church because they believed church membership should be voluntary and that only believers should be baptized.
  • Methodist

    John Wesley was an English cleric, theologian, and evangelist, who was a leader of a revival movement within the Church of England known as Methodism. The societies he founded became the dominant form of the independent Methodist movement that continues to this day. Methodism, 18th-century movement founded by John Wesley that sought to reform the Church of England from within. The movement, however, became separate from its parent body and developed into an autonomous church.
  • Presbyterian

    The Presbyterian Church established itself in the Cleveland area in 1807, among the earliest Protestant denominations, and developed rapidly. Presbyterianism originated in the 16th-century Protestant Reformation and the teachings of John Calvin of Switzerland and John Knox of Scotland. They split from the catholic church because the Presbyterians were opposed to the hierarchy and religious teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Uniting church

    The Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) was formed on June 22, 1977, as a union of three churches: the Congregational Union of Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia. They seperated from most congregations of the Methodist Church of Australasia.
  • Hillsong Church

    The hillsong church was founded by Brian and Bobby Houston. The hillsong church split form the church to become an autonomous denomination, identifying itself more as a global and charismatic church. According to both Hillsong and ACC, the parting was amicable.
