Chiang Kai Shek retires from presidency
Chinag Kai Shek retired, and at the same time, Mao Zedong declared the People's Republic of China. -
Mao declares The People's Republic of China
Mao Zedong anounces The People's Republic of China and begins his re-structuring of the nation. -
Executions of Chinese spies or counter-revolutionaries
28,332 people were killed for being a counter-revolutionary or a spy. -
China's first 5 year plan
Began in 1953 and ended in 1957. Industry increased 121 percent more than projected, living standards improved, and China's population grew to 646 million. -
China's Great Leap Forward
Lasted from 1958 to 1960. Was not very successful and many people lost their lives. -
The Cultural Revolution
The revolution lasts from 1966 to 1969. Intellectuals were again sent to the countryside, millions of people were persecuted, and many historical and religious artifacts were destroyed. The original aim was to consolidate Mao's power and his revolution. -
Mao Zedong passes away
Chairman Mao dies on the 9th of September in 1976.
