  • Opium War

    Opium was being grown by the British East India Company in northern India and was later shipped to China, the demand for the drug jumped dramatically. Later, silver was being taken out of china by the officials of the British East India Company
  • Tai Ping Rebellion

    The Tai Ping rebellion was when there was a decline in the Qing Dynasty, this Dynasty made excessive expenses and was very unfair to the people, so the chinese rebelled against it and as a result 20 million people lost their lives. All of this occured under Empress Dowager Cixi’s ruling.
  • Internal Crisis

    At this time Emperor Guang Xu launched a reform program based on the changes that happened in Japan. With these reforms purpose was to modernize the government in China by following what the Westerners did, such as having similar schools and banking.
  • Open Door Policy

    This policy made sure there was equal access to the Chinese Market for all the nations, later when no other governments showed any type of opposition, it was stated that the policy had to be followed by most of the states with economic interests in China
  • Boxer Rebellion

    The Boxer Rebellion happened when the boxers where upset about China’s economy and how foreigners took their land. The Boxers would typically slaughter the foreigners and also Chinese Christians. Their main mission was to get rid of the foreigners and take down the government.
  • Sun Yat-Sen Revolution

    In this revolution a group of revolutionaries wanted to end the imperialism that China was under by the Qing Dynasty. When this happen the Dynasty was too weak and couldnt take action so the Dynasty fell and imperialism was ended. This established the Republic of China
