The end of the convict labour
By 1850, there was allready 3000 chinese people in NSW. Most of them were indentured labourers known as coolies. Coolies were unskilled workers. -
Immigrants from all over the country
By 1854 immigrants from all over the country were coming to Victoria.The single and young people wanted to make good money. -
Restrictions on the chinese
Beacause so many chinese were coming to Australia, the government finally put a restriction on how many chinese could come at a time. Plus the chinese were expected to join secret societies. -
Europeans steal from the Chinese
Europeans miners set fire to the poor chinese camps so that they would run and survive and the Europeans could steal the diggings. Because the chinese didn't pay their 1 euro tax, the Europeans took all their gold as a punishment. -
Riots in Australia
About 3000 Europeans miners marched over to the Chinese camps and destroyed them. Around 250 chinese people were very badly injured and most of them got their belongings stolen by the Europeans miners.
