    _China signed treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919
    _ The May Fourth Movement was an anti-imperialist, cultural, and political movement growing out of student participants in Beijing on 4 May 1919, protesting against the Chinese government's weak response to the Treaty of Versailles, especially allowing Japan to receive territories in Shandong.
  • The Communist Party in China

    The Communist Party in China
    During the May Fourth Movement, the Marxist ideas and beliefs were spread to the people. This helped the creation of the Marxist political party or the Chinese Communist Party. It is believed that the founders of the Communist Party are Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao. It is the Communist Party that soon becomes the government of China, the regime in power today.

    It began when Nationalist Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek took Nanjing from Zhili clique warlord Sun Chuanfang halfway through the Northern Expedition in 1927.The Nanking decade was marked by both progress and frustration. The period was far more stable than the preceding warlord era. There was enough stability to allow economic growth and the start of ambitious government projects, some of which were taken up again by the new government of the People's Republic after 1949.

    During the Marco Polo Bridge Incident Japanese military demanded permission to enter the Chinese city of Wanping to search for a missing soldier. The Chinese refused. Later in the night, a unit of Japanese infantry attempted to breach Wanping walled defences and were repulsed. An ultimatum by the Japanese was issued before they would declare war. The Chinese still refused.
