Opium Wars
China had destroyed British Opium shipments after the government had put laws against users/smugglers. China was drained of it's money, paying for the destroyed opium. This had led to China setting trade policies with other nations, making a new trade landmark in the world. -
Communism in China
The communists battled hardships, and national forces, before growing stronger than they were. Fighting to spread the beliefs of communism lead to the end of oppression, and more spread of Marxism/Communism. The success led to the strong command economy in China today. -
Great Leap Forward
Various types of workers were sent to work on industrialized buildings, as a result, the food production had fell. The abandoning of agriculture had caused a chain reaction. This is when the economy had started to fall. Floods and droughts were killing many, and famine killed millions. Although Mao's attempt at modernization was a huge failure, it caused a revolution to get China back on their feet. -
Four Modernizations
After Mao's death, Deng realized China needed more technology in order to modernize, opening the door to foreign trade and investment. He set up Special Economic Zones (SEZ), which attracted foreign money. China's economy soon expanded and rose rapidly. If the economy continues to grow they will have the 2nd most successful economy in a few years.
