    Massachusetts creates the first state child labor law where children under 15 working in factories have to attend school for at least 3 months per year

    Mary Ellen McCormack was the first child abuse case to ever go to court in US
  • Empolyment age limit

    banning the employment of children under the age of 14
  • Childrens Charter

    The first act of parliament to prevent cruelty to children was passed. This meant police could arrest anyone who was found badly treating a child and could go into a home if a child was thought to be in danger.
  • Children's Bureau

    The Children's Bureau helps with child abuse cases. They not only try to prevent it but they also try to stop it happening again.

    The childres charter act was changed. he act was changed, This meant children could give evidence in court, Mental cruelty was recognised and it became an offensive to not give a sick child medical attention.

  • Children act 1948

    The act made a children commitee and a children’s officer in each local authority following the death of 13 year old Dennis O’Neill at the hands of his foster parents

    An Inquiry into the death of Maria Cowell at the hands of her stepfather, showed a lack or coordiation between child welfare services. Its report led to the development of area child protection committees in England and Wales
  • Baby C

    one of the first highly publisised child abuse cases was in 1987. A 2 year old girl from south auckland died because of her abusive mother.

    This is a law that was passed by Congress. It gives every child the right to protection from child abuse.
  • Protection for kids act

    This law was made when Congress thought that children were being abused in the workplace. It prevents abusers from working with children.
  • Abuse Prevention and Enforcement Act

    This law allows people to get involved and stop children from being abused.
  • Scottland review

    The Scottish minister ordered a review of child protection in Scotland following the inquiry into the murder of a 3 year old Kennedy McFarlane. The review showed that half the child at risk of abuse or neglect in the country dont get proper protection
