Chemistry Timeline By haysunderful Jan 1, 1600 Alchemists Alchemists existed between 1000 to 1650. They tried to change lead and other things unto gold. They also tried to find an exilir to prolong life. The alchemists learned how to use metallic compounds and plant-derived materials to treat diseases. Jan 1, 1767 Joseph Priestley Priestley discovered oxygen, carbon monoxide, and nitrous oxide. He also proposed the electrical inverse-square law in 1767. He lived from 1733 to 1804. Jan 1, 1830 Louis Pasteur Pasteur made the first recognition of bacteria as disease-causing agents. He also developed the field of immunochemistry. Pastuer introduced heat-sterilization of wine and milk (pasteurization). He lived from 1822 to 1895. Jan 1, 1850 J. von Liebig Liebig investigated photosynthesis reaction and soil chemistry. He was the one that first proposed the use of fertilizers. He also iscovered chloroform and cyanogen compounds. He lived from 1803 to 1873. Jan 1, 1871 Ernest Rutherford Discovers Scatters of Nucleus Rutherford poineered the orbital theory of the atom with his famous gold foil experiment. He discovered scatters of the nucleus. He won the Nobel Prize in 1908. Jan 1, 1895 W.K. Roentgen Roentgen discovered x-radiation in 1895 and he received the Nobel Prize in 1901. Jan 1, 1897 Dalton's Law and Atomic Theory Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures states that the total pressure of a gas in a container is the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases in the container. Dalton proposed that each chemical element is made up of unique atoms that can't be altered or destroyed. Dalton's new information on atomic weights allowed a Russian chemist, Dimitry Mendeleyev, to create the periodic table of elements. Jan 1, 1906 Thomson's Disocvery of the Electron Thomson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Phsycis in 1906 for discovering the electron and for his work in conducting electricity in gases. Jan 1, 1915 Bohr Model Bohr proposed the bohr model of the atom in 1915. This model is the newer model of the Rutherford example. Radiation is emitted when an electron moves from one orbit to another. Jan 1, 1922 F.W. Aston Aston did research on isotope speratation by mass spectrograph and recieved a Nobel Prize in 1922.
