When cheerleading became popular in 1940's, today's basic stunts were a huge hit. Most pyramids were two people high, and the flyers stayed on the bases legs.
-
In the 1950's, the stunts got a little bit more complex. People used flexibility to make the pyramid look better.
-
Not only did they use flexibility, they used strength to get their flyers on top of the bases. The bases held the girls on their shoulders while they stood on one leg.

In the 1970's cheerleading became very popular. The squads were getting bigger, and they started to have more complex stunts and pyramids.
-
During this time, they started doing 3 men high pyramids. The flyers stood on one leg, and held a girl on top of them.
-
Now, pyramids have flexibility, and strength like no other. The flyers are able to stretch in ways that people in the 1940's would never think is possible. Everyone in stunt has to hold a great amount of weight.
