Atlanta Hawks
The team was originally the Tri-Cities Blackhawks along the Mississippi River in 1946. Origianl name was Buffalo Bison then the team moved to Milwaukee which then they changed the name to Hawks. Then in 1968 they moved to Atlanta and became the Atlanta Hawks. -
Herman Talmadge

Brown vs. Board of Education
The Brown vs. Board of Education ended legal segragation in public schools. 13 parents took their children to sign up for school during the summer and all was refused admission. Theu were forced to attend a African American school. -
Sibley Commision
Ernest Vandifer was forced to choose between closing schools or Federal Gov't desegregate the school. The Sibley Commision question people about desegregating schools and tell the governor. Governor Vandifer made a decision to desegregate all schools and public places and his choice changed segregation. -
Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee
The SNCC was formed to give more young blacks a voice in civil rights movement. In February 1960 sit-ins at lunch counters was closed to blacks. There also was Southern Christian Leadership Conference led by reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also wanted his process to move faster . -
Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter
Charlayne and Hunter were the first african american students admitted to the University of Georgia. Hunter wanted to enter a college with strong journalism but at the time University of Georgis didn't accept african americans. Hunter and Holmes decided to just apply for UGA and were denied and in fall Hunter enrolled in Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. -
The Albany Movement
The Albany Movement was a desegregation coalition formed in Albany, Georgia, on November 17, 1961, by local activists. The Albany Movement mobilized thousands of citizens and attracted nationwide attention, but failed to accomplish its goals because of a determined opposition. Voting, petitions and other things had been going on for decades. -
