  • Charter of 1732

    The first twenty years of Georgia history is known as Trustee Georgia because during this time a Board of Trustees governed Georgia. England's King George signed a charter so Georgia could create its own government.

    American Revolution

    The American Revolution was also known as "the War of Independence". On October 19, 1781 Americans were officially independent of Britain rule.
  • Elijah Clarke/Kettle Cr.

    Elijah Clarke joined the rebels as a militia captain. On February 14, 1779 he led the rebels in a victory at Kettle Creek.
  • Austin Dabney

    Austin Dabney became the only African American to be granted land. He was granted land for his military service during the Revolution.

    In September 1786, at the Annapolis Convention, delegates from five states called for a Constitutional convention. They wanted to improve the Article of Confederation.
  • Georgia Ratifies Constitution

    Georgia called a special convention in Augusta to consider the proposed charter. The delegates voted unanimously to ratify the new U.S. Constitution.
