The Voyage of the Beagle
In late 1831 there was a ship known to many as the HMS beagle which was going to start a five year journey around the globe when they invited the upstart naturalist named Charles Darwin to journey with them and join their quest. While on their journey Darwin made countless observations of the animals, plants and the land; particularly when their quest lead to to the Galapagos islands. -
Darwin presents findings
While in the Galapagos, Darwin collected various different specimens of finches which he would utilize to justify his theory of evolution. Darwin demonstrated his findings to the Zoological Society of London. -
Darwin published "On the Origin of Species"
Charlies Darwin published "On the Origin of Species" which throughout history has become one of the most important pieces of academia anyone has ever written. Darwin established his theory of evolution by natural selection, inspired largely by his time on the HMS beagle voyage in the Galapagos islands. One of the many components to his theory was that every species is can product offspring will can last long enough to reproduce. -
Publication of "Fertilisation of Orchids"
Darwins contributions didn't stop with justifying natural selection via different species of finches, he also published a book "On the Various Contrivances by which British and Foreign Orchids and fertilized by Insects, and on the Good effects of Intercrossing". He discussed the evolution of insects and the plants they fertilize as well and how they also evolve over time to adapt to their given habitat. -
Death of Charles Darwin
Before his death Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution had caused a paradigm shift on the scientific community. Darwin paved the way for population thinking, he shifted the mindset of central representation, and allowed for the possibility for variation among species. Without his work the very idea of natural selection would not exist. Darwin epitomizes the idea we learned in chapter 1 of a scientific revolution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOk_0mUT_JU
