    Antiquity

    My country was exposed to people from Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden, and Norway) who had entered the territory of the East Slavs. These Scandinavians are known as Varangians. The Varangians mixed with the Slavs and gave them the name Rus. The Mongols set up a kingdom called the Golden Horde. During the time of Mongol rule, two strong Russian states developed. Novgorod became a powerful state in western Russia. Muscovy, or Moscow, became the strongest power in the north.

    Greeks spread the religion

    Greek Missionaries began spreading their religion in 980 CE they spread Eastern Orthodox which is a *Sect of Christianity. In the 10th century the Scandinavian Rus controlled the areas around Kiev. Undoubtedly influenced by his Christian grandmother Olga and by a proposed marriage alliance with the Byzantine imperial family, Vladimir I of Kiev, from among several options, chose the Byzantine rite. Baptized in 988, he led the Kievans to *Christianity.

    Slavs languages and ethnicities

    Slavs speak in a lot of various languages from the Indo-European language family and most of the Slavs are Christian. They started a series of migrations around the 6th century AD where they expanded westward into land between the Oder and Elbe- Saale rivers. They also moved southward into Bohemia Moravia, Hungary and the Balkans and northward along the Dnieper River. While they were migrating to all these places they were also spreading their languages.

    Who brought islam to Russia

    Islam first reached the Caucasus region with the Arab conquers in the 7th century. The Dagestani people became the first people to become Muslims within current Russian territory after converting to Islam in the 8th century. The first Muslim state in the future Russian lands was Volga Bulgaria. Islam is recognized under the law and by Russian political leaders as one of Russia’s traditional religions.

    Today Russia doesn't have that many ethnic groups. The main ethnic groups of Russia are Russians, Tatars, and Ukranians. There aren't many different language groups in Russia today either. Most of Russia's language is the slavic language. One of the only other languages there today is the Turkic language. Some of the other langauges in Russia today are Tatar, Checken, and Bashkir.
