First major newspaper in the UK was published. Technology has now improved so that it can print daily, much as it is today. This allows people to get information the day after an event, speeding events up. -

Telephone was invented, this allowed people to communicate with each other from long distances in real time communication it also speeds up commerce. -

Home telephones became available. This allowed the public to talk directly with each other. Only rich people had these as they were very expensive. -
BBC Radio
BBC radio begins broadcasting. This is the first mass media. Became very popular. Transmits lots of information into peoples homes. Hitler used the radio to try and get support. -
BBC Television
The BBC begins broadcasting television in the UK. This was an even more powerful form of mass media. State owned. Created by the BBC to "inform, educate and entertain". The rise of correspondents. Able to cover wars and big events. By 2010 it was there are 24 million TV's in the UK -

The internet was invented by the American Military so that if one military base was destroyed the others could contact each other by a communication "net" -
Cable TV
Cable TV becomes available in the UK. It allows your television to have a lot more channels than just 3 channels that existed at the time. -
Mobile Phone
First mobile phone goes on sale in the UK. Costs around £2000, half hour talk time. Weighed around 1kg. -
Satellite TV
Satellite TV became widely available to the UK public. High technology beamed from satellites. Allowed you to have lots more channels. Allowed correspondents to report from events live as they happen. -

First text message sent. Today most popular form of instant communication. 1.2 billion text messages sent per week in the UK. -

Publicity available, world wide web (Web 1.0) used to find information buy and sell. -
World Wide Web 2.0
Becomes about social networking bebo/myspace. -
3G Mobile
3G mobile became available: This allows members of the public to send pictures and videos to eacother and also have real time video calls. -
4G Mobile Available
High speed internet access. Everyone is plugged into the system. -
World Wide 3.0
To emerge interegated internet which finds organised and arranges things on your behalf via clouds.
