    Pierce lived from 9/10/1839-4/19/1914 (Burch). Pierce wrote his first paper of logic around 1851, but he focused on his philosophy of Pragmatism between the 1860s-1914 (Burch). His written papers and manuscripts were not chronologically reconstructed and analyzed until the 1980s (Burch).     Pierce was considered the founder of Pragmatism, a method of right thinking, logically (Burch). He associated semiotics with the logical structural way of viewing science Pierce claimed there were three phases to this logical way of processing reality, what is true science: icon, index, and symbol (Gaines).
