Evolution
This became the foundation of modern evolutionary studies. Theory of evolution was first formulated in his book "On the Origin of Species". This is described by which organisms change over time as a result of changes in heritable physical or behavioral traits. These changes is what allows on organism to adapt to its environment. This will allow it to survive and pass the beneficial traits to its offspring. Over time it will evolve into and entirely different creature. -
Natural Selection
To explain the evolutionary process of natural selection. This is where advantageous genetic mutations are preserved. Such as if a species develops wings and learns how to fly their offspring will inherit that trait. The trait would then be passed down into the next generation. When a species can change colors or size through generations it is called microevolution. Its believed with whales genetic changes happen where the nostrils moved back on the head and eventually turned into a blowhole. -
Sexual Selection
Darwin also believed there was a form of natural selection called sexual selection. This is described as an organisms success at attracting a mate. The concept of this theory is that it is the same as natural selection. This causes the secondary characteristics to form such as in male organisms. Like peacocks with the elaborate tails, deer with the antlers, and men with deep voices. -
Further on the theory
Evolution by natural selection is one of the best substantiated theories in the history of science. It is supported by evidence such as paleontology, genealogy, genetics, and developmental biology. An easy way to think about this theory is "survival of the fittest"
