Darwin Arrives on the Galapagos Islands
In 1835, Charles Darwin landed in the Galapagos Islands. It was here that he began cataloging different species in his diary. This would eventually become fuel which would ignite his curiosity on different varieties of finches and whether they were naturally occurring or if another force was at work. -
Civil Unrest and the Formation of Darwin's Ideas
Upon Darwin's arrival back in England, he came back to a nation which had been undergoing much reform with the First Reform Act being enacted in 1832. During this time, Darwin used his Unitarian and Anti-Slave ideals to really shape his ideas. He used the idea that slaves were people to in order to motivate himself to find a way to prove we were the same through evolution. All of this data collection, analyzation, interviewing, and even civil unrest helped create a paradigm shift. Darwin was now realizing that the old theory was wrong and beginning to visualize a new theory because the previous facts were wrong.

Charles Darwin died at the age of 10. This was a traumatic experience for him which inspired him to research inbreeding, and if it can negatively impact the health of offspring. Due to the fact that he married his first cousin.
