  • Charles Darwin Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection

    Had three main component that is an that variation occurred randomly among members of a species; that an individual’s traits could be inherited by its progeny; and that the struggle for existence would allow only those with favorable traits to survive. In his model, each species has its own unique set of heritable genetic differences from the common ancestor, which have accumulated gradually over very long time periods.
  • Survival of the fittest

    Survival of the fittest, term made famous in the fifth edition which was published in 1869 of On the Origin of Species by British naturalist Charles Darwin. He suggested that organisms that are best adjusted to thier enviroment are the most successful in surviving and reproducing.
  • The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex

    Darwin details a theory that he calls Sexual Selection. The idea that in many species males battle other males for the acess to females. In other species females choose the biggest or most attrative males to bond with. His idea that organisms with favorable traits are more likely to reproduce, thus passing on those traits to their offspring. Both mechanisms helped to explain how species evolved over time.

    The effect of Darwin’s work on the popular imagination was profound. We can provisionally group the philosophical effect of Darwin’s work into two camps. There is the direct effect it has had on those philosophers concerned especially with the study of science itself. Darwinism continues to be controversial. Analytic philosophers of science are still greatly divided on whether certain major tenets of Darwinism have proven to be true in particular the first Darwinian thesis that variation.
