  • HMS Beagle's travel around the world (1831-1836)

    At the age of 22 Charles Darwin sets sail on the HMS Beagle as the ship's naturalist upon an invitation. Originally, the trip was planned to be a two year journey, that ended up lasting an unforgettable five years. During his journey, Darwin gather lots of information on the geology, plants, and animals; while also collecting countless specimens that he gathered and sent home for further studying. This timeline of events made way for the rest of his career.
  • Darwin's time as the Geological Society's secretary

    Upon being persuaded by his friend, Whewell, Darwin assumes the position as secretary of the Geological society in 1838; where he served for thee years. During his time in the society, his works on the geology of the Andes and coral reefs earned him the Wollaston Medal award; his highest earning accolade. His time in the society takes place after his voyage across the globe, where he publishes many articles and documentations from his recent voyage on the HMS Beagle.
  • Idea of Natural Selection is born

    Charles Darwin publishes his manuscript prior to the publication of Alfred Wallace's essay, 'On the tendency of species to depart indefinitely from the Original type'. During the meeting at the Linnean Society(1858), both papers were presented to those that attended. the two friends that managed to persuade Darwin, wrote a joint letter to the secretary of the society containing various extracts of works done by Darwin and the essay written by Wallace.

  • 'On the Origin of Species' book publication

    Charles Darwin publishes this book claiming that various features and adaptations of species that were discovered to distinguish them, can also be used to give an explanation onto how they came to be and divert over the passing of time. Though being published in 1859, he developed this theory between the years 1837-1839 upon his travel around the world on the ship HMS Beagle.
