    Charles Darwin was born in a small town in England called Shrewsbury. He grew up the second youngest out of all his siblings, raised from a wealthy family. He grew up to be adventurous and had a desire to explore. He passed away April 19, 1882.

    What even is the theory of evolution through natural selection?
    Simply stated, the theory that Charles Darwin surfaced is that animals evolve and conform to their given environment with time. These changes can be physical and/or behavioral characteristics. This theory highlights that all species in the world are interconnected and that specific characteristics of a species within a certain habitat may be supported in comparison to others.

    At the age of 22, young Charles was invited to take a trip around the globe. Voyaging amongst the H.M.S. Beagle, he examined the coastal islands and mainland of South America, piling up his observations, notes, and specimens to observe and study thereafter the trip. The ship departed for the trip on December 12, 1831.

    Throughout the voyage, Darwin gathered enough data to recognize a specific pattern. In the Galapagos Islands, different specimens of birds served as his focal point. Darwin realized that the finches from the islands differed from the main continent. Each separate finch population complimented their environment in unique ways for them to live in that habitat. This is where the theory of evolution through natural selection was introduced.

    Decades after the voyage, Darwin published his work, "On the Origin of Species." Shining light on a new idea, his published work sparked quite a conversation throughout the public. People did not believe him. He was hated and doubted for the implications he brought up that were controversial with religion and society. Charles Darwin was known for arising a dangerous topic.

    Philosophical Controversy
    After Darwin's work was announced to the public, tension aroused. In fact, rules and policies were set not to favor sides of religion or the theory of evolution in educational settings. There will always be a debate between different parties. Some will claim God created us and others will debate on behalf of Charles Darwin. Because people have the right to host their own thoughts and opinions and it is a difficult philosophy to 100% prove, this philosophy will remain controversial.
